YAMANAKA
1986
stile LIFE (Japan)
In Yamanaka lacquer ware, thin lines are carved on the unglazed and top surfaces, then uncolored, natural lacquer is applied. It is known for its reddish-brown color that shows the wood grain below as well as its elegant thinness. These pieces were designed as large scale vessels for ordinary use based on the preservation of these techniques that remain from the mid-1700's, when Yamanaka lacquer ware was a souvenir for visitors to onsen (hot springs).
