Lacquer: Katsuji Kamada and Shuzo Shingu 2 Artists Exhibition

There are various techniques for lacquer.

Mr. Kamata uses the "dry lacquer" technique, in which he coats hemp cloth over the heartwood, to create light and soft-looking vessels.

Mr. Shingu, who also studied sculpture, uses the "kurimono" technique, in which wood is carved with a chisel, to create all of his pieces, from the base of the wood to the lacquering process.The exhibition featured works by these two artists who are taking on the challenge of creating new types of vessels.
