Zoukibayashi – Odawara-Hakone’s “Yosegi-zaiku” (Wooden Mosaic Parquetry)

Odawara Hakone’s wooden mosaic parquetry called “Yosegi-zaiku”, this traditional handicraft is made by the 6 members of Zoukibayashi: Kiyotaka Tsuyuki, Eiji Shinoda, Yuuki Ishikawa, Ken Ohta, Yuhei Kojima and Yuta Shimizu, who has inherited the generations of traditional artistry and craftsmanship, will be displaying their latest Yosegi-zaiku products.

This traditional handicraft was very popular during the Edo-period among the travelers passing across the steep mountainous path of Hakone, which is once again revived today.

Katsuji Kamata – Exhibition of Dry Lacquer Tableware

By utilizing Wajima-Noto’s 1,000 years old dry lacquer techniques, Kamata Katsuji’s endeavor of pursuing the creativity of this art, his lacquer ware is very popular these days, and it is said that he has seems to attain a style of his own lacquer technique at last. His tableware made to “being-used” for any occasions of our modern lifestyle, he will present newly created varieties of nested boxes and spoons.

NUNO – kibiso Reiko Sudo Exhibition

Ever since its start up from 1984, Reiko Sudo of NUNO has worked with traditional Japanese dyers from various parts of Japan, and there is a special textile that she is working on since 2007. Using “kibiso”, raw waste silk threads from cocoons. Textile made from kibiso is said to be high in moisture retention, ultraviolet absorbtion and antioxidation, and is used as skin care ingredient. In this exhibition, natural and ecological daily use goods made with kibiso are presented.

GORO

A very practical and useful hanger stand when preparing for grooming to go out or to come home. Its hanger for trousers are designed to prevent slipping off, a tray to hold your coins, keys, mobiles, wrist watches and anything small. There is a hook behind the mirror post to hold your bag, and the two horizontal posts projecting from the mirror will hang on to your neckties and hats. The expandable stand will extend to hang long coats as well.

SOAVO

Aluminum die-cast is used around the speakers and the stand, and by creating a form that makes particular use of the woody texture, SOAVO is designed to match with interior furnishings and to enhance the image of high-quality sound.
The speakers and related equipment have a compact design with fine and detailed care given to achieve the delicate balance of high to low range tones, creating speakers for the ultimate sound lovers.

HIDAJI

Surrounded by mountains, Takayama has been famous for its wooden architectures and woodcrafts which fostered many excellent craftsmen. In the Edo era, Takayama was the Shogunate demesne where Tea Ceremony flourished. Because its lacquer ware finishes resembled that of Seto ware (glazed pottery), it was called Shunkei lacquer ware. It’s beautiful colors and finishes were especially popular as tea ceremony ware. Since the 16th century, the natural soft textures and its delicate surface still shape many tableware and flower pots to this date. Around 1968, I had a privilege of coming across a 200 years old ancient beautiful Shunkei lacquer ware that looked so fresh as if it was finished only days ago.

Armchair

Product that arose from rethinking about the original characteristics of molded plywood and putting at the core of design “the good quality” that only unique materials displays. Conventionally, the artificial coldness of plywood processing should not go well with armchair designs, but with their high technology, it has shaped the molded plywood into a soft and very affable form.

DUE

A two-legged chair. By changing the structures and shapes of the hind leg, one is able to attain many expressions to suit the scene. Single pipe frame formation with single canvas sheet. Suspend with piano wires, or just simply lean it to a wall, or turn it into a systemized bench with multiple units.
